Girl power in music has come a long way since the Spice Girls and it seems now, more than ever, there is a plethora of talented women out there making sweet music.
Our latest girl band crush is Warpaint, a four-piece ‘experimental art rock’ band who have been tipped as ones to watch in 2011 by music publications everywhere. Meeting at 11 years old at Choir practice, Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman embarked on a friendship that would lead them to join forces and create Warpaint. After a few line-up changes, the girls met Stella Mozgawa and Jenny Lee Lindberg who became the band’s third and fourth members.
Citing influences from Patti Smith and Courtney Love, Warpaint make surprisingly haunting tunes, with an underlying strength powering them along.
Style wise the girls say this: ‘Our style is as casual and unintentional as our music.’ Wearing a mix of grunge inspired looks and vintage, they dress with an innate style.
With a cool laidback vibe to their songs and a nonchalant approach to fashion- these girls are surely set for big things….
