Bored of the usual festive flicks on the TV? Then why not head down to your local cinema this week and check out the amazingly witty and thought-provoking 50/50. Based on a true story, the film follows 27-year-old Adam (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) after he finds out he has a rare spinal cancer that leaves him with a 50/50 chance of survival. Levitt's performance is both inspiring and compelling as we see his emotional journey through chemo, and is balanced out nicely with Seth Rogen playing his best friend Kyle, whose usual comic one-liners help to keep such a touching subject from being too heavy. And that's not forgetting Anjelica Houston's heartbreaking portrayal of Adam's struggling mother, caring for both her sick son and her husband suffering from Alzhiemer's disease. The film is both beautiful, and tear-jerking, and is well worth watching. If you don't cry, there is definitely something wrong with you!
