Pretty Pastels

What with this horrible cold snap that's arrived recently, we've been inspired by warmer climes - Oz to be precise. We love this editorial by Nicole Bentley featuring Rosie Tupper for Vogue Australia.

Valentine Tarts


Valentine’s Day is pending and there is no doubt that there is no better opportunity to use a bit of creativity and show your love for someone special! For those who like the cute, crafty and sweet things, try making your special someone peanut butter chocolate spread Valentine tarts. Decorated with heart-like strawberries on some pretty paper will make a very pretty edible gift!


Ingredients
225g Butter crust pastry mix
Jar chocolate spread (can be any but we recommend Nutella)
Jar peanut butter
Strawberries (cut in half)
Edible gold spray

Method
-       Heat oven 180C
-       Make the pastry as the packet manufacturer instructs
-       Then sprinkle the surface with flour and roll out the pastry so that it is quite thinly but not too thin!
-       Use heart pastry cutter to cut out the tarts then use your thumb and make a deeper imprint as deep as you would a jam tart and fill each case with baking paper and rice to hold in place
-       Put in the oven for 20mins
-       Spread the base thickly with peanut butter then layer on top the yummy chocolate spread
-       Bake extra 10mins or until crust is golden
-       Take out the oven and allow to cool
-       Spray gold and serve with cut strawberries and cream

Meet... Milk Bubble Tea


Our next instalment of our Meet the Blogger series comes from Becky over at Milk Bubble Tea. Read on to find out more about the girl behind the blog...


Ok, first up who is 'Milk Bubble Tea'?    
My name is Becky, I'm 22 (almost 23)  and I am a dog person - if you have a dog, we will be friends! I don't like tea or coffee  - I'm the adult who still orders a hot chocolate (with extra cream and marshmallows of course).  My camera is never far from my side and I hate mushrooms.  

How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place? 
  I've been blogging for just over a year and a half now. My blog started out as a online diary and somewhere to share my photographs along with daily snippets of my life. I'm constantly surprised at the comments I receive and the amount of followers who read my blog. I like to put effort and time into my blog posts but it's my readers who make blogging really enjoyable for me! 



What inspires your blog posts?    
 I love capturing moments in my photographs. Wether it be something big or something small. When I receive lovely compliments from readers of my blog telling me they love my photography, it really inspires me to keep it up. 

How would you describe your style?  
My style can vary from time to time but at the moment I'm currently living in my trusty pair of american apparel easy jeans and cosy jumpers. I'm a cream jumper (and general knitwear) hoarder! 



What three items can you not live without?    
This probably sounds really bad but my iPhone! Im always snapping photos on it, emailing, tweeting etc I always get plenty of eye rolls when instagram-ing my lunch before eating it, oops. 2. Concealer (is a girls best friend.) 3. My DSLR - I take my camera everywhere with me, every trip, even just on little walks with the dogs and adventures at the weekend!

What do you get up to when you're not blogging?  
When I'm not studying and my macbook isn't glued to me. I like to take my dogs for long walks, go to the cinema often (and always buy a huge carton of salted popcorn, never sweet!) or spend time with my lovely boyfriend.


 Tell us something no one else knows about you...    
I have a little scar on my forehead from when I fell over when I was two, it's exactly like Harry Potters.. Jealous?

And lastly, what's your favourite thing about Winter? 
Frosty mornings and fresh snow, I love walking on fresh snow and hearing that crunch underneath my feet!

Perfect Pancakes


It's almost one of your favourite days of the year and, no, we don't mean Valentine's Day. Before we even get to that there's Shrove Tuesday, or as we prefer to call it, Pancake Day! There are hundreds of different ways to spice up your pancakes to make them a little different to last year's. Here's what we'll be making on the 12th...



Ingredients
110g plain flour
Pinch of salt
2 eggs
½ pint of milk (can use half water and half milk)
Lotus caramelised biscuit spread
Lotus caramelised biscuits
4 bananas (chopped)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp brown sugar
Caramel sauce (optional)

Method
-       Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl; add the egg
-       Add ¼ of the milk and stir carefully with a wooden spoon, beat the mixture until it is smooth and then let it stand for 15mins
-       Slowly add and beat together the rest of the milk and then use an egg whisk to get air into the mixture
-       Into a small pan add a dessert spoon of oil and heat until you can see steam rising faintly, pour the mixture on to the pan so that it covers the whole area in a thin layer
-       Cook for 2mins each side
-       To make the filling you will need the bananas, vanilla extract, water, brown sugar and 2 healthy dollops of biscuit spread
-       Heat everything in a pan apart from the bananas on a low to medium heat until the sauce starts to sizzle
-       Add the bananas and caramelise them, add filling to pancakes, sprinkle with crushed Lotus biscuits and serve with vanilla ice-cream

What we're Listening To...


Sending out tape recorders to journalists, then sending letters from Russia with old song lyrics along with laundry tickets so that said journos could go and collect suave dinner jackets with their new logo on the lapel – this pop duo are original and far from mundane.



When their first album Happiness was released in 2010, they made quite a big impression – Europe especially. They’ve sold millions of their records, been topped as the sound of 2010 poll and just were quite generally sought after chaps, once they’d been let out into the mainstream media.

The band consists of vocalist Theo Hutchcraft and synthesist Adam Anderson. They seem to work well together and can contribute to their sound what the other cannot.

Bit cheeky, sexy-style, pop-sound with a VIP appearance from Rhianna but still with Depeche-mode resonant lyrics – this is definitely a song to enjoy – Hurt’s new single Miracle.


Exile - the new and second record release – will be out in March this year and they’re next playing live this week Feb 07 at Heaven, London.

If you can’t get enough of Celia Birtwell’s gorgeous retro prints then keep your eyes peeled for her designs at Uniqlo from 21st March.
